DESCRIPTION:The 1 in 3 Foundation’s Lunch and Learn will include two sessions in response to the national trend #WhyIDidntReport. This Lunch and Learn will explore research behind why sexual trauma survivors do not report their experience to law enforcement or caregivers and also what care providers\, family and friends can do when someone does speak up about sexual abuse or sexual assault. \nRegistration is $10 and opens Monday\, March 4th! Click HERE to Register! 3 Hour CE Opportunity! \nSession 1 (9:30-11:00 a.m.): Why reporting sexual abuse and assault does not happen. \nKendra Bennett\, M.A.\, LPC will review research into the barriers that are present in reporting sexual abuse and assault by survivors. Additionally\, she will review how these barriers can be overcome and how to support someone in the reporting process. \nSession 2: (11:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m.): After the Outcry: Strategies for Helpers and Those Who Care \nBobbie Burks\, M.A.\, LPC will work with participants relating to what to do when a client\, patient\, loved one makes an outcry regarding sexual abuse and assault. Mrs. Burks will review the impact on family dynamics that can follow as well as research supported evidence of the mindset of survivors during this time. How do families handle those situations to ease the trauma of the victim and also what happens to families in the wake of the outcry? Mrs. Burks will help attends understand the proper steps to take to assist a survivor and limit further trauma from the experience. \nSession 1 Learning Objectives:  \n\nParticipants will assess emotional and psychological barriers to reporting.\nParticipants and facilitator will identify how to walk survivors through barriers.\nParticipants will discuss how to support an individual in the decision to report.\n\nSession 2 Learning Objectives: \n\nParticipants will discuss the impact of sexual abuse/assault on the victim.\nParticipants will identify personal attitudes toward sexual abuse/assault and apply how that could impact their response.\nParticipants will identify potential healthy responses to a victim’s outcry.\nParticipants will develop a vocabulary of what to say to a victim at different stages.\nParticipants will recite the information they learn to others\, demonstrating effective advocacy for those who experience sexual abuse/assault as children or adults.\n\nAbout the Speakers: \nAbout Kendra Bennett\, M.A.\, LPC \nAbout Bobbie Burks\, M.A.\, LPC-S  \nGrievance Policy \nCommonwealth Educational Seminars (CES) seeks to ensure equitable treatment of every person and to make every attempt to resolve grievances in a fair manner.
