SUMMARY:Suicide Prevention and Awareness: Asking Questions to Understand
DESCRIPTION:Suicide is among the top 10 leading causes of death in the United States and people of all ages and genders may be at risk. The session will increase awareness and provide comprehensive training on suicide in adolescent and adult populations. Attendees will increase skill in understanding suicide\, conducting a thorough suicide risk assessment and recognizing signs and symptoms of suicidal behavior. The correlation between mental health and suicide will be detailed\, and different options for treatment of suicidal behavior will be discussed \nAt the conclusion of this program\, participants will be better able to: \n1. Discuss the prevalence of suicide in adult and adolescent populations.\n2. Identify and explain active and passive suicidal thoughts.\n3. Identify warning signs for suicidal behavior.\n4. Describe evidence-based steps to complete a suicide risk assessment.\n5. List options for treatment of suicidal behaviors. \n1.5 Hours of Continuing Education Credit is pending through Commonwealth Educational Seminars for the following professions: Psychologists\, Licensed Professional Counselors/Licensed Mental Health Counselors\, Social Workers\, Licensed Marriage & Family Therapists\, and Nurses.\nIt is the participant’s responsibility to check with their individual state boards to verify CE requirements for their state. The program is offered for Beginning Level professionals. \nPsychologists: \nCommonwealth Educational Seminars is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. Commonwealth Educational Seminars maintains responsibility for these programs and their content. \nLicensed Professional Counselors/Licensed Mental Health Counselors: \nCommonwealth Educational Seminars (CES) is entitled to award continuing education credit for Licensed Professional Counselors/Licensed Mental Health Counselors. CES maintains responsibility for this program and its content. \nSocial Workers: \nCommonwealth Educational Seminars (CES) is entitled to award continuing education credit for Social Workers.
