SUMMARY:The Journey Through Human Trafficking
DESCRIPTION:This program will provide participants with an introduction to and multiple perspectives on human trafficking. Dr. Stephanie Simmons\, licensed clinical psychologist\, will dispel common myths associated with human trafficking and discuss the psychological consequences of human trafficking. Participants will broaden their understanding of treatment considerations and best practices to support survivors of human trafficking. Vera Radvan\, a survivor of human trafficking\, will provide a unique perspective on her journey and recovery. Finally\, Lauren Trantham will discuss her experiences supporting survivors of human trafficking through her non-profit organization\, Ride my Road. Participants will have the opportunity to delve deeper into the journey through human trafficking via panel discussion and a question and answer session. \nSpeakers: \nStephanie Simmons\, Clinical Psychologist\, The University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler\nVera Radvan\, Survivor\nLauren Trantham\, Founder\, Ride My Road\n(Ms. Vera Radvan and Ms. Lauren Trantham are presenting their materials under the auspices of Dr. Stephanie Simmons) \nModerator:\nKaren Vaughan\, VP of Programs\, 1 in 3 Foundation \nSpeaker Biographies:\nDr. Stephanie Simmons\, PsyD is the Associate Program Director\, Assistant Professor and Clinical Psychology at University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler. Vera Radvan currently lives in Europe and is a survivor of human trafficking. Vera is currently writing a memoir on her survival of human trafficking and sharing her story to facilitate hope and healing for other survivors. Lauren Trantham is the founder and Executive Director of Ride My Road\, a fundraising nonprofit organization that mobilizes bikers to create grants for Survivor-Led Organizations offering direct services to American survivors of Human Trafficking. \nLearning Objectives:\n1. Critique five common myths related to human trafficking.\n2. Identify psychological consequences of human trafficking and three treatment considerations.\n3. Describe at least two challenges to recovery from a survivor’s perspective.\n4. Discuss one approach to supporting survivors of human trafficking from a non-profit’s perspective. \n1.5 Hours of Continuing Education Credit is pending through Commonwealth Educational Seminars for the following professions: Psychologists\, Licensed Professional Counselors/Licensed Mental Health Counselors\, Social Workers\, Licensed Marriage & Family Therapists\, and Nurses.\nIt is the participant’s responsibility to check with their individual state boards to verify CE requirements for their state. The program is offered for Beginning Level professionals. \nPsychologists: \nCommonwealth Educational Seminars is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists.
