Suicide is among the top 10 leading causes of death in the United States and people of all ages and genders may be at risk. The session will increase awareness and provide comprehensive training on suicide in adolescent and adult populations. Attendees will increase skill in understanding suicide, conducting a thorough suicide risk assessment and recognizing signs and symptoms of suicidal behavior. The correlation between mental health and suicide will be detailed, and different options for treatment of suicidal behavior will be discussed
At the conclusion of this program, participants will be better able to:
1. Discuss the prevalence of suicide in adult and adolescent populations.
2. Identify and explain active and passive suicidal thoughts.
3. Identify warning signs for suicidal behavior.
4. Describe evidence-based steps to complete a suicide risk assessment.
5. List options for treatment of suicidal behaviors.
1.5 Hours of Continuing Education Credit is pending through Commonwealth Educational Seminars for the following professions: Psychologists, Licensed Professional Counselors/Licensed Mental Health Counselors, Social Workers, Licensed Marriage & Family Therapists, and Nurses.
It is the participant’s responsibility to check with their individual state boards to verify CE requirements for their state. The program is offered for Beginning Level professionals.

As an American Psychological Association (APA) approved provider, CES programs are accepted by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). These courses can be utilized by nurses to renew their certification and will be accepted by the ANCC. Every state Board of Nursing accepts ANCC approved programs except California and Iowa, however CES is also an approved Continuing Education provider by the California Board of Registered Nursing (Provider # CEP15567) which is also accepted by the Iowa Board of Nursing.
